July 2025 Insights
The High Street Asset Management Tailwinds Project
In South Africa, sport has a rare and powerful ability to unite and uplift. It’s more than just entertainment; it’s a deep source of national pride and a catalyst for hope. From the iconic image of Nelson Mandela handing the Webb Ellis Trophy to the Springboks in 1995, to Simphiwe Tshabalala’s thunderous opening goal at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, these moments have brought millions together in shared joy and belief. But behind these headlines are thousands of young athletes across the country training with discipline, passion, and the dream of becoming the next Siya Kolisi or Makhaya Ntini. For many, the greatest barrier isn’t talent, it’s access. Without financial support, visibility, or networks, countless promising athletes are left without the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
High Street will be launching the Tailwinds project. Through this initiative, we aim to support young South African sportspeople who possess immense talent and drive but need a helping hand in achieving their goals. Our aim is to help level the playing field by providing crucial assistance, whether it’s funding for specialised coaching, travel to competitions or essential equipment. We want to ensure that natural ability is never limited by circumstance.
We’d love your assistance in identifying deserving candidates. If you know a young athlete who fits this profile and can be verified as a deserving candidate, someone with genuine potential but limited means, we would like to hear about it. Sport has always been one of South Africa’s greatest tailwinds, propelling individuals, communities, and our nation forward. We’re excited to be part of the next great story.
Our first quarterly campaign will commence in October, and all candidates must be submitted by 19 September. Please get in touch with jo-ann@hsam.co.za if you have someone in mind, or if you’d like to get involved.
